Uncle Sam Wants You…To
Hire A Veteran
During times of war and
despair, we call on our Armed Forces. After
all their hard work and dedication of serving
our great country, it is now time for us
to help them by offering opportunities for
employment.
Through training and education, veterans
have the ability to work independently or
as part of a team and can work with people
from a variety of backgrounds. They also
have a vast knowledge of the computer technology,
have a strong work ethic and are trained
to take on additional responsibilities as
part of their daily routine. One quarter
of their career has been spent as students
or instructors in various specialties, resulting
in continuous education. Over 95% of officers
possess baccalaureate degrees and 35% have
earned a masters degree or higher. According
to the Department of Labor, “Veterans
have sophisticated and up-to-date work experience
in occupational specialties which are directly
transferable to the civilian economy.”
Some industries that could greatly benefit
from hiring a veteran are accounting, computers,
construction, education, electronics, engineering,
financial administration, foreign languages
and law enforcement.
With their outstanding work ethic and their
meticulous attention to detail, these veterans
would be an asset to any company. Consistent
follow up, persistence and pride are all
hallmarks found in the armed forces. These
new emerging veterans know how to set priorities,
how to work under pressure, how to function
as part of a team and how to exercise initiative.
As future civilian employees, these armed
forces personnel have the education, training,
experiences and personal characteristics
that can easily make them invaluable to
employers in today's labor market.
At the Workforce Development Center, we
work with Veterans on a daily basis. If
you are interested in receiving the benefits
of hiring a Veteran, call the Workforce
Development Center nearest you.
