On-the-Job Training: Funds are available to employers to help offset the cost of training new hires. Businesses could receive a wage reimbursement of up to 50% of the new employee’s wages during the training period. In order to qualify, the following criteria must be met:

  • Jobs should meet or exceed wage requirements.
  • The job trained for has transferable skills and is not seasonal or temporary.
  • Contracts must be completed/approved prior to the new hire’s first day of work.
  • The length of the training period depends on the amount and complexity of the training needed to bring the worker to the desired skill level.
These funds are available through the Workforce Investment Act

Youth Internships: On-site, hands-on training that takes place in private-for-profit organizations. The internship may be combined with classroom training or basic skill instruction tailored to the career goals of the youth.

Cooperative Education: Cooperative education is an educational program that gives students the opportunity to gain practical paid work experience in their areas of study. Participating businesses and agencies provide a supervised learning environment in which students, employers and Waukesha County Technical college cooperate in relating classroom instruction to on-the-job training. Placements are generally part-time and can be one or two semesters in length.

Work Keys: A three-stage employability skills assessment tool designed to ensure that you have the right people staffing your key positions.

  • Working with your experienced employees, ACT-authorized job profilers evaluate the key skills and levels of competency required for specific jobs in your organization.
  • Then, ACT’s standardized Work Keys skill assessments are administered to your job applicants and/or employees to pinpoint their current skill levels in up to eight critical areas.
  • Your organization then compares the skill levels demonstrated by each test taker to the minimum skill levels required for the profiled jobs-enabling you to immediately evaluate an applicant’s qualifications and/or determine the training needs of your current employees.
  • Providing a complete spectrum of job analysis, assessment, instructional support, reporting and training identification services, the Work Keys system is built around a set of skill scales that accurately measure both the skills of individuals and the competency levels required for successful job performance.
